In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the College of Medicine, The Arizona
Health Sciences Library will have these exhibits on display during the month
of November 2007:
First Flags
First Flags is a set of three flags, the flags of the
United States, the State of Arizona and the University of Arizona. They
were the first flags to fly at The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center
and were flown in front of the medical center from September 1, 1971 until
September 1, 1972.
First Flags was donated to the Arizona Health Sciences
Library on November 26, 2002 by Jack M. Layton, MD.
College of Medicine Equipment – 1967- 1971
This exhibit consists of equipment used during the first years of the College
of Medicine. Equipment displayed comes primarily from the multidisciplinary
physiology labs and from Dr. John Palmer.
Remembering the beginning...
Come and read the headlines which announced the opening of the university
or Arizona College of Medicine.
This exhibit is located in room 2101 of the library, near the Java City Coffee
Bar. This exhibit will display various photographs of our scrapbooks compiled
during the late 60’s and early 70’s. These photographs will take
you back down memory lane or, if you are less than 40 years old, will describe
to you what the daily news were back then. Remember the Polo Fields? The Quonset
huts? How many students were in the first graduating class?
You are invited sit down, relax, have a cup of coffee with old friends, and
relive those days.
Are these pictures not detailed enough for you? Talk to our special collections
librarian and make an appointment to view the actual scrapbooks!
