How to find a journal article

In order to access the Electronic Journal directly, go to the E-Journals page

You may either type the name of the journal (for more popular journals you may type their abbreviation; i.e. JAMA) you are looking for in the search box or you may scroll through the list of journals. Click the letter which corresponds with the first letter of the journal (‘The’ not included) and scroll down to find your journal.

Once you have found the journal, you may have multiple options of providers to the journal. Each link will take you to full text pages. However, make note of the subscription date range. It may be different from provider to provider.

Another way to access a journal article is to use the single citation matcher via PubMed

Go to the PubMed page. On the left hand side of the screen (under PubMed Services) click on Single Citation Matcher. You may enter all or some of the citation you may have (i.e. Volume, Date, Author). After you have submitted the information, click the ‘OK’ button.

The search may bring you directly to the article or it may give you a list of close matches. Find you article in the list and select it.

If we have access to full text, click the Full text button: link to full text

If we only have the article in print, click the View Print Holdings button to see more information about the journal: link to print holdings

Another search engine you may use is Ovid

Go to the Ovid/Pubmed page and click on ‘Start Ovid’.

Click on one of the first two listed links (the first one of the article in question was printed after 1996; the second link if it was printed before 1996).

Find the article by typing the ‘Title’ tab and then typing the article title into the search box and then clicking ‘Search’.

Once the search is complete, click on ‘Display’ in the upper right hand corner of ther page.

When you find your article, click on the get full texticon. You will be brought to a new ovid page where you will see a link that reads click this link to open the document. When you click that link, you will either be taken to the article (if we own the full text subscription) or to a page where you can order the article through Document Delivery Services. If you are brought to this page, scroll down until you see the link that reads: Submit a request for the article (Free service for AHSC affiliates only) When you click that link, you will be brought to the Document Delivery Service log in area (if you have not created an DDS account, you will need to do so). Once you have typed in you log in name and password, the request form will be auto filled for you. Click submit, your DDS request will be submitted.
