Limited Access

What is Limited Access?

Limited Access is the time during which quiet & silent study restrictions are strictly enforced in the Library. If conditions become over-crowded during this time, student identification will be checked and non-AHSC students will be asked to study elsewhere.

When is Limited Access in effect?

Limited Access occurs 4 times a year. It runs for two weeks before and the week during mid-term exams and final exams each semester. Limited Access periods for Fall 2002 are:

September 16th- October 10th

Who is eligible to use the Library during Limited Access?

Everyone is welcome to use the resources of the Health Sciences Library during Limited Access and everyone must strictly observe the quiet and silent study restrictions.

If the number of people in the Library reaches a point that the Libray is over-crowded, student identification will be checked upon entrance to the Library. Only students in these UA colleges or schools will be admitted to use AHSL as a study hall at that time.

How is Limited Access enforced?

Library staff continuously monitor the study areas of the Library. If distracting behavior is detected, Library staff will ask non-compliant students to leave the Library. Complaints regarding distracting behaviors, such as cell phone use or talking, may be registered at the Information Services Desk.

If the library becomes over-crowded, CatCards will be checked from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Non-AHSC students will be asked to study elsewhere.

Are there other restrictions?

Cell phones should be turned off or set on vibrate everywhere in the Library. Please remember that voices in the stairwells carry easily into the quiet study areas. All cell phone use must be restricted to outside the Library.

AHSC students wishing to study in groups may check out Group Study Room keys from the Information Services Desk. Non-AHSC students needing to study collaboratively in groups should find another venue.

What if I just need to find some journal articles?

If restrictions due to over-crowding become necessary, non-AHSC students who need to use the Library's journal, book or digital collections may continue to enter the Library, but will be asked to leave their backpacks outside. Lockers are available in the lobby at the cost of $0.25.

What is the purpose of Limited Access?

Serious students need a place for quiet study, especially during exam times and AHSL wants to provide such an environment. We appreciate your cooperation!
